Rabellaka's Cavies

Welcome!

My name is Rabellaka.

Ok, it's really not, but that's what I go by online.

I am located in London Ontario, Canada.

I currently am trying to breed smooth-hair, or American, Lilacs. I am very limited by space however, so I cannot have too many animals in the house at once.

About Me

My sister got our family's first guinea pig, or cavy, in 1997 after looking after two from the school for the summer. She had a Tortiseshell and White Abyssinian, named Wilbur, after the pig in Charlotte's Web. When my parents seperated and she moved with Wilbur, I got my first guinea pig, Snow. Now, genetics say there is no such thing as an albino guinea pig, and that may be true, but mine came out of a line of buff silkies, and was a red-eyed white, with shorter hair than is normal in a silkie. When I moved to college in '99, Snow stayed with behind while I lived in a place with no pets. When I moved, instead of bringing Snow to stay with me, I got a white crested baby from my cousins, who had just had a litter. I also visited a few pet stores and bought a red boar and two more sows, one of which will always be one of my favourites. She was a white crested lilac and orange broken colour, and she was beautiful. After that, I had anywhere from 2 to 16 at any given time between then and January of 2002. That was when I had move for a job, and could not have any pets until recently.

My favourite colours have always been Red-Eyed White and Lilac, but it wasn't until I tried to find a lilac cavy that I realized how rare they are here. I've also grown attached to the Dalmation colouring as well.

As far as breed goes, I like the smooth haired breeds, including crested, and my husband does not care for long-haired breeds. I've only recently learned about some of the curly coat breeds, and the Texel and Teddy both look interesting.
